1.) What is Silk Lamination?

Silk lamination is the up coming feature for printing. The process of printing a silk laminated card is unique. It starts by having a standard business printed in full color, then laminated on both sides with silk which gives off its special ‘smooth as silk’ feel. Having a silk laminated business card is unlike any other card. However we do advise that the silk is a laminate, not a coating. Having a silk laminated card can slightly effect the color of your finished card.

2.) What is Matte/Dull Finish?

A dull Aqueous coating is applied after the printing process is completed. The Matte or “Dull” finish provides a very unique finish for your printed material. Matte stock is very smooth and has a slight “eggshell” sheen.

3.) What is UV Coating?

UV Coating is one of the most popular features people choose for their standard business cards. It’s fast, cost-effective, and still gets good impressions. UV Coating consists of a gloss coating that is applied to the printed paper and dried using a ultraviolet light. This process makes the UV coating a slick surface which becomes near waterproof.

4.) What file formats do you accept?

We accept PDF, EPS, AI, JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files. When submitting these files, please make sure they are in the color mode of CMYK and NOT RGB. Your file will be rejected. When submitting a .eps, .ai, .pdf from illustrator, please make sure you outline your fonts! By not doing so, this can delay the process.

5.) What is the best way to set up my file?

There are many ways to make sure your file is set up correctly. We recommend sending your file in as a .ai, .psd, .pdf with layers. This way we can inspect your files easier.

When setting up your document, please make sure you have a bleed line of a 1/16″ bleed on all sides. For example, a 3.5″ x 2″ business card file should be submitted at 3.625″ x 2.125″ Please use our print templates for the best results.

Make sure your color mode is set in CMYK and NOT RGB. This is give you an idea what colors you can use before you start the design process.

If you are designing your piece in Illustrator, please make sure to convert all fonts and text to outlines and flatten all transparencies. ( .PDF, .EPS, .AI files )

Make sure your resolution is set to a MINIMUM of 300 DPI!

6.) What is your turnaround time?

Depending on what job you are submitting to us. If it’s standard business cards these items are printed and shipped in 2 – 4 business days. If you are submitting an order that contains foils, die-cuts, layering, embossing, spot uv, this can take up to 8-10 business days ( depending on how custom the job can be ).

TURNAROUND TIMES ARE ONLY AN ESTIMATE AND NOT A GUARANTEE

7.) Can you do a rush job on my order?

No, we cannot rush any print order. Please plan accordingly as our turnaround times do not include weekends. However, we can expedite the shipping if the buyer requests it. The buyer is responsible for paying the expedited price. We print at the highest quality possible which makes our schedule pretty tight.

8.) What is a bleed line/full bleed?

Typical house printers cannot print edge to edge. Your printer at home or office will almost always leave a white border around your paper ( if trying to print edge to edge ). For a specialty print shop like We The Printers, we require that you have a 1/16″ bleed line so your item can have color from edge to edge. When you extend your design/color past the cut line, the blade cuts right through the ink versus not having a bleed line and cutting directly on the cut line which is almost impossible. This will leave a white line on almost all of your cards. When designing your card, try to keep important information at least 1/8″ from the cut line (red line). By doing so, this will ensure there will be no text cut from your card.

We will not add a bleed line for you, that is the designer’s responsibility when creating the product. If your document does not have the proper bleed line, it will be rejected for you to fix.

9.) Will the colors on my screen print exactly as it appears?

As vibrant as color can be on screen, its impossible to have colors you see on screen, print on paper. As the saying goes “Your screen lies to you”. The colors you see on your computer screen is called additive color. Subtractive color is the kind of color which is applied to your print job.

Additive color describes the situation where color is created by mixing the visible light emitted from differently colored light sources. This is in contrast to subtractive colors where light is removed from various part of the visible spectrum to create colors. ( via wikipedia )

A Subtractive Color model explains the mixing of paints, dyes, inks, and natural colorants to create a full range of colors, each caused by subtracting (that is, absorbing) some wavelengths of light and reflecting the others. The color that a surface displays depends on which colors of the electromagnetic spectrum are reflected by it and therefore made visible. ( via wikipedia )

We cannot guarentee that colors will come out the way you expect but with out high end equipment, your job will be produced with the highest quality possible.
